Finalement, Apple prend un peu tout le monde par surprise en rafraîchissant plus tôt que prévu sa ligne de portable haute gamme. Les processeurs Intel Dual Core de type Yonah se retrouvent donc au coeur des nouveaux MacBook pro 15" de Apple. Ces nouvelles machines seront livrées dès février 2006 en Amérique du Nord (et probablement un peu plus tard en Europe). Apple a même trouvé le moyen de réduire la taille (~ 0,2 cm) et le poids (~ 100 g) de ceux-ci.

Les caractéristiques sont les suivantes:
• Intel Dual Core cadencé à 1,67 ou 1,83 GHz
• 512 Mo ou 1 Go DDR 667Mhz
• Carte ATI Radeon Mobilité X1600 de 128 ou 256 Mo de GDDR3
• 80 ou 100 Go de disque dur
• Écran de 15,4" - 1440×900 (67% meilleur contraste)
• iSight (caméra vidéo-conférence) intégrée
• Superdrive 8X (pas de dual layer encore)
• Sortie DVI (dual link)
• Sortie audio digitale
• Port Firewire 400 et 2 ports USB2
• Port ExpressCard/34 (carte PCMCIA)
• Gigabyte Ethernet, 54G Wireless, Bluetooth 2.0
• Récepteur infrarouge et télécommande pour Front Row

On dénote le départ du port firewire 800, du port s-Vidéo et du modem interne 56k. Pour le modem, ça risque d'en agacer plusieurs, spécialement les gens qui utilisent leur portable sur la route où une connexion internet à haut débit n'est pas toujours disponible.

La cours d'appel fédérale a statué que les fournisseurs de service Internet n'étaient pas obligés de fournir les coordonnées de 29 de leurs clients ciblés comme grands partageurs de fichiers. Un belle victoire pour les utilisateurs Internet canadiens.

Job's Keynote at Mac World 2004

Je retiens 3 points majeurs du lancement fait par Steve Job:

• Des servers Xserve G5 avec un mode de license logiciel comme Linux (unlimited client). Donc "OUT" le mode de license par connection ou par utilisateur du serveur.
• Un update des applications de iLife et l'ajout d'une nouvelle application au groupe: GarageBand, pour composer de la musique. Franchement impressionnant comme application.
• L'ajout d'une nouvelle version de iPod: le iPod mini. Prix: 249 $ US, 4 Gb, Firewire et USB 2.0, Mac et PC, même interface que le iPod. De la grosseur d'une carte d'affaire ayant 1/2 pouce d'épaisseur. Ça va tuer le marché des autres lecteurs mp3. À 249$ je pense que le prix est trop près du iPod 15 Gb qui est 299 $, mais le prix devrait baissé (même si Apple n'a pas la réputation de réduire très souvent ses prix). Plus d'info

Pas de nouveau PowerMac ni de Powerbook G5 pour l'instant.

Bon bon... ça m'a presque fait rire aux larmes. Voici l'article:

The RIAA is preparing to infect MP3 files in order to audit and eventually disable file swapping, according to a startling claim by hacker group Gobbles. In a posting to the Bugtraq mailing list, Gobbles himself claims to have offered his code to the RIAA, creating a monitoring "hydra".

"Several months ago, GOBBLES Security was recruited by the RIAA (riaa.org) to invent, create, and finally deploy the future of antipiracy tools. We focused on creating virii/worm hybrids to infect and spread over p2p nets," writes Gobbles.

"Until we became RIAA contracters [sic], the best they could do was to passively monitor traffic. Our contributions to the RIAA have given them the power to actively control the majority of hosts using these networks."

Gobbles claims that when a peer to peer host is infected, it catalogs media and sends the information "back to the RIAA headquarters (through specifically crafter requests over the p2p networks) where it is added to their records", and also propagates the exploit to other nodes.

"Our software worked better than even we hoped, and current reports indicate
that nearly 95% of all p2p-participating hosts are now infected with the
software that we developed for the RIAA."

The "hydra" is uncorroborated.

Gobbles attached two pieces of code, one of which jinglebellz.c details a frame header exploit for the Linux player mpg123. The code chastises OpenBSD lead Theo de Raadt for failing to checksum the public MP3s (written to celebrate each OpenBSD release). The group has singled out OpenBSD in its previous exploits

In their presentation to last year's DefCon, the group described itself as "the largest active nonprofit security group in existence (that favors full disclosure)," consisting of 17+ members.

"They're real, and they're damn good. They have made what appeared to be extremely exaggerated claims in the past, and when mocked, they have demonstrated that they are serious," one security expert familiar with their work, who declined to be named, told The Register.

"He's a funny guy," De Raadt told us. "This is a buffer overflow exploit," he confirmed. De Raadt said he was more concerned by social engineering than by external exploits. "We had Fluffy Bunny, now we have Gobbles. They come in waves. "

An exploit of this nature is of dubious legality, right now, but language in Howard Berman's "P2P Piracy Prevention" bill last year legitimizing such exploits was backed by RIAA chief Hilary Rosen:-

The Berman bill, ensured a copyright owner would not be liable for "disabling, interfering with, blocking, diverting, or otherwise impairing the unauthorized distribution, display, performance, or reproduction of his or her copyrighted work on a publicly accessible peer-to-peer file trading network, if such impairment does not, without authorization, alter, delete, or otherwise impair the integrity of any computer file or data residing on the computer of a file trader." Berman is expected to re-introduce the bill in this Congressional session.

The Sun is overheating and will soon blow up . . . taking Earth and the rest of the solar system with it, scientists warn.

The alert was issued after an international satellite photographed a massive explosion on the surface of the Sun that sent a plume of fire 30 times longer than the diameter of Earth blasting into space.

"It's a sign that the Sun is ready to blow . . . I don't know if I can put it any more plainly than that," says Dutch astrophysicist Dr. Piers Van der Meer, a top expert affiliated with the European Space Agency.

"It will be like a nuclear bomb trillions of times more powerful than the one dropped on Hiroshima going off at the center of our solar system.

"When that happens Earth will be instantly incinerated along with all life on it. It's like when a marshmallow falls into a fire, blackens and melts."

Scientists say the problem is the Sun is literally getting too hot.

The core temperature of the Sun is normally 27 million degrees Fahrenheit. But in recent years it's climbed to an alarming 49 million degrees, says Dr. Van der Meer, leader of a team of Amsterdam-based space scientists who've been tracking the changes in the Sun.

"It's quite similar to when a star goes supernova at the end of its life," Dr. Van der Meer explains. "Over the past 11 years, we've seen our Sun go through changes frighteningly like those that took place in Kepler's Star right before it was observed going supernova in 1604."

Temperatures on the surface of the Sun have been steadily climbing over the past decade, the scientists say.

"This, we believe, not man-made pollution, is responsible for global warming and the alarming effects that we've seen take place on Earth such as the melt-down of the Antarctic ice shelves," asserted Dr. Van der Meer.

The July 1 images were taken by the space-based Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO), a satellite designed to study the internal structure of the Sun and operated jointly by NASA and the European Space Agency.

"The explosion . . . known technically as an eruptive prominence . . . was colossal," said Dr. Van der Meer. "This is the final warning sign we've all been dreading."

The Dutch scientists calculate that if temperatures keep climbing at the current rate the Sun will be unable to sustain itself.

"It will blow apart like an out-of-control nuclear reactor within six years," predicts Dr. Van der Meer.

NASA refuses to confirm the Euro-pean scientists' assertions and a White House source said, "We don't need anyone spreading more panic now."

Hacking Las Vegas

Voici une histoire très intéressante. Une groupe de joueurs de Blackjack du MIT ont monté une méthode de comptage de cartes pour gagner au casino. Et ça marche ! Un article intéressant à  lire.

Personnellement , je ne joue pas au casino (une taxe sur le rêve??? non merci), mais si vous voulez essayer leur méthode, c'est à  lire absoluement.
